Axle replacement begins!This past week was another busy one with the start of one of the last major projects on my Jeep’s restoration… replacing the post-war axles with the 1943 GPW axles! I started work on the rear of the Jeep first, taking most of the week to clean/restore my springs, shocks, and other items in prep for the new axle!
AXLES FINISHED!This past week was quite busy with lots of work done on the GPW front axle, and it’s FINALLY done bringing the restoration of the axles to a close! I installed the Tie Rods, prepped the brake lines, painted the axle, cleaned up some important things, added the brake lines, and greased it up! Also in this update, a quick update on the GPW hood and two original WW2 Jeep books I recently picked up.
Small projects, Hood Finishing, and Axle work!Lots of projects this week making for quite the busy work! I worked on various small projects that have been needing to be done, such as modifying a rear seat J hook to fit, prepping shock brackets with fake rivets, and replacing the combat rim valve stem protectors. Work on the hood continues, it’s all finished minus the markings! And I continue work on the front axle installing the RZeppa shafts, packing grease into the knuckle, installing the brake plates/drums, and adjusting the brakes!

Hood history, painting along with kingpin/knuckle work!This week was a crazy busy week with work on two major ongoing projects.. the GPW hood and the GPW front axle! This week I continued work removing paint and rust on the hood, did some historical recovery of hood numbers, and painted the hood. After finishing the rear axle last week, I began work on the front axle with one of the more tricky parts… the kingpin and knuckle installation. I go through a full tutorial on how to set those along with the dust shields!

Rear Axle work – Part 2The second part of this past week’s update, this one focuses just on the rear axle work. From diagnosing a serious issue to a full write up on adjusting the brakes! Plus, the axle turns Green at the end!
GPW Axle work begins & Halloween Event!Finally, after nearly 10 months, the 1943 GPW axles I’ve been slowly restoring to replace the CJ axles currently on the Jeep are starting to be put back together! After several weeks of issues getting the ring and pinions set, both axles are finally set! Now to put them together. This week, I started work on the rear axle first, with everything from adding the drum bearings to setting the brakes!

A slow week…This week slowed down to a crawl as I’m in a bit of a waiting pattern for the next stages of the axle work. But I did work on some of the smaller items I purchased two weeks ago at the swap meet, and I continued (slow) work on restoring the original GPW hood.
Axle work begins and a Fire Extinguisher!PART 2: Going through the rest of the items from the haul last week including restoring the GPW Dip Stick and tube. Also, axle work finally begins on the replacement GPW axles! And wrapping up this special update, I get to work restoring a proper fire extinguisher for the Jeep!

Ring & Pinion journey, Fire Extinguisher Decal, looking for more history, etc!This week I finally saw the light of the end of the tunnel trying to acquire a ring and pinion set… which revealed a great surprise! I then attempted to find some more history on my Jeep via the body tub, more work on the Fire Extinguisher decal, and finally finding a wartime jerry can for the Jeep!

Fire extinguisher, new wheels, F Bolts, and more!This week an uptick with work on the Jeep! From getting a fire extinguisher bracket to four new firestone military tires for the Jeep! Also some more axle work was done (and some good news), replaced some more non-wartime bolts with F bolts, and more work testing out Voltage Regulator inspector stamps!
