Canvas Half Door Curtains on the GPW

Canvas Half Door Curtains on the GPWCanvas Half Door Curtains!

Another fun addition to the Jeep this week, Canvas Half Doors! Also known as canvas curtains, these were issued with Jeeps, but were one of the first things the GIs would toss! I go into how they are installed and removed, and my thoughts of them on after a drive. Also, I tackle another test for the rear axle clackity sound, and begin work on replacing my water pump!

Finally, after so many delays it just got to be silly, the Jeep is back up and driving again! In this extra-long update, I go through the entire process of changing out my CJ2 engine head to a wartime GPW head! That includes adding the correct studs, bolts, a GPW thermostat, and a copper gasket. It’s been a multi-week project! I also continue replacing bolts with correct recessed head bolts and replace one of the top bow brackets with a GPW one. Plus several other things!

Reproduction Jeep Fuel Tank

Reproduction Jeep Fuel TankWork continues as more gets added to the Jeep

The last week has been pretty busy with work done on the Jeep each day. The pace has certainly slowed down dramatically, and many of the projects I have left take a long time to complete, so it’s not as productive feeling since these projects are tedious. The good news is the Jeep RUNS! The bad news… there’s another issue.

This past week has had a lot of activity on the Jeep with more small projects as I wait for good non-windy weather to paint the frame. Lots of electrical items have arrived for the Jeep, and I was able to test most of them with the battery. Some fun surprises! Work is about done on the engine with the oil pan reinstalled, just needs to be put back on the frame once the frame is painted.
