AXLES FINISHED!This past week was quite busy with lots of work done on the GPW front axle, and it’s FINALLY done bringing the restoration of the axles to a close! I installed the Tie Rods, prepped the brake lines, painted the axle, cleaned up some important things, added the brake lines, and greased it up! Also in this update, a quick update on the GPW hood and two original WW2 Jeep books I recently picked up.
Small projects, Hood Finishing, and Axle work!Lots of projects this week making for quite the busy work! I worked on various small projects that have been needing to be done, such as modifying a rear seat J hook to fit, prepping shock brackets with fake rivets, and replacing the combat rim valve stem protectors. Work on the hood continues, it’s all finished minus the markings! And I continue work on the front axle installing the RZeppa shafts, packing grease into the knuckle, installing the brake plates/drums, and adjusting the brakes!

Small projects, custom F Stamps, Hood work, and completing the rear axle!This past week was a flurry of work on the Jeep in prep for the Veterans Day military vehicle and car show in Old Town Tustin, CA. That meant finishing some smaller projects that I’d been meaning to get around to (mostly cosmetic things). Some photos from the Veterans Day event and the 9 other Jeeps that showed up included. I continued work on the GPW hood and had a major setback. And I FINALLY finished the rear GPW axle! Work then began on the Front axle

Rear Axle work – Part 2The second part of this past week’s update, this one focuses just on the rear axle work. From diagnosing a serious issue to a full write up on adjusting the brakes! Plus, the axle turns Green at the end!
Hood work, Firestone Spark Plugs, and Rear Axle work – Part 1!This week’s update will be a two part post once again! I got quite a few things in the mail to continue my ongoing quest to correct post-war things on the Jeep, got more radioactive Firestone spark plugs, worked on the GPW hood including fixing some stress cracks, and fixed a stripped bolt hole in the rear axle hub with a Helicoil kit in this first part!

GPW Axle work begins & Halloween Event!Finally, after nearly 10 months, the 1943 GPW axles I’ve been slowly restoring to replace the CJ axles currently on the Jeep are starting to be put back together! After several weeks of issues getting the ring and pinions set, both axles are finally set! Now to put them together. This week, I started work on the rear axle first, with everything from adding the drum bearings to setting the brakes!

A slow week…This week slowed down to a crawl as I’m in a bit of a waiting pattern for the next stages of the axle work. But I did work on some of the smaller items I purchased two weeks ago at the swap meet, and I continued (slow) work on restoring the original GPW hood.
Fire Extinguisher, more Horn Work, Axle work, and more!This week continues the busy work with all the new items I acquired for the Jeep in the previous updates. I changed the mount for my Horn based on some new evidence, finished the restoration of a proper Fire Extinguisher, installed the GPW dipstick, I started work on the replacement GPW hood, and more axle work (which ran into a major halt).

Military Vehicle Swap meet and Axle Work Begins!PART 1: As I predicted, last week was the calm before the storm, and this past week it’s been one heck of a ride! In fact, it’s so much I have to split it into two parts! After attending a military vehicle swap meet, I came away with a horde of new items for the Jeep, including an original Sparton Horn which I completely restore in this update! Look for Part 2 on Monday!

‘Nose Art’ for the Jeep and a look at the Rear Shocks!Call this week the calm before the storm… this week was a bit slow but important! I finally got down to naming the Jeep and adding some ‘nose art’ to the windshield! It’s taken quite some time to do! Plus, in prep for what will be the start of rebuilding the GPW axles starting (hopefully) next week, I took a look at the rear shocks to see what they are!
